I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of sharing a little more of my life – sort of a behind the business. Sometimes the perfect pictures and pretty people can be a little misleading. What you don’t see is the crying baby in the background or the nagging toddler. While you might not see that either in these behind the scenes blurbs, perhaps they will help you get to know a little bit more about who I am.
Anyway, so Benji turned 1. I am more of a minimalist when it comes to birthdays. We celebrate with basic decorations, donuts, a special dinner, and cake and ice cream. Harvey helps me decorate, and it’s usually all store bought. To some of you that’s probably horrifying, and to others that’s probably a relief. Maybe one of these days, my birthday parties will look more Pinterest worthy!
I found this confetti and number 1 balloon in the Target dollar section – both $1 each. They made cute decorations and also a fun photo opp and activity for the boys. Harvey loved throwing the confetti. We also blew up a bunch of balloons that are not pictured, but were very loved by my boys!
The day of the celebration, we got donuts in the morning. Benji was fascinated with the donut, and it took him a good 10 minutes to realize he could eat it! After, we opened presents. I’m pretty sure that Harvey was more thrilled than Benji about the gifts. Later that day, we went to Pizza for dinner.
Our day finished with the cake eating, which was anti-climatic. Benji touched the wax on the candle right after the photo above was taken. OOPS! Fortunately, it only took a few minutes for him to realize he had a huge cake to eat. The end result – cutest cookie/cake monster I’ve ever seen.
Although I love these pictures and am secretly a little relieved Benji’s getting older, I am also having a hard time calling him my one year old. Isn’t that one of the biggest dilemmas that comes with motherhood?!
