It’s no secret that red lipstick is intimidating for many women. However, a great red lipstick is also a great way to make a statement for an important event, a holiday party, or simply because you are feeling festive. If you’ve been wanting to try a red lipstick here are some of my tips for success.
1 – Combat Dry Lips
Dry lips are a deal breaker for the perfect red lip look. A red lipstick can emphasize the flakiness of your lips. To prevent this from happening, make sure to keep your lips hydrated. You can even exfoliate them occasionally if you need to. You can also look for red lipsticks with a creamier texture. I also instantly fell in love with the Clarins moisture-rich red lipstick. It was creamy and soft, helping to minimize the appearance of my dry lips. When I put it on my lips looked smoother. The Clarins hydrating lip oil also offers a beautiful shine and is extremely nourishing – something all women can benefit from in the wintertime.
2 – Balance Your Eye Makeup
Just because you are wearing red lipstick does not mean you need to wear nothing on your eyes. However, it’s important to find some balance so that the two features are not competing for attention. I like to use brighter colors rather than dramatic ones. This way the eyes look enhanced but they do not take the focus on your lips.
3 – Don’t Use Too Much Blush
I love blush as much as the next person, but too much of it can be overkill when you are wearing red lipstick. I often prefer to use bronzer with red lipstick. I also like a subtle blush that gives you a flush of color. If you go to rosey, you might end up looking clown like.
4 – Highlight Your Cheekbones
Since you are using less blush with your red lipstick look, you can always try a highlighter to bring attention to this area of your face. I love highlighters nearly all the time, but I especially love them with red lipstick. They give the face a nice glow that is a very pretty compliment to the bold red color.
5 – Use Concealer to Erase Any Mess Ups
Most people are weary of red because they are worried about messing it up. Good news. Concealer is a great tool to wipe away your mistakes. I like to use a brightening concealer around the lips because it draws more attention to the red lipstick.
